Short Game Scramble Free
Chipping, pitching, bunker, and putting work
Blocks
Bump and run
Hit bump-and-run chips with a putting-like stroke
- ball back in your stance, hands pressed forward, weight favoring your lead foot
- minimal wrist action
- pick a landing spot about 3 feet onto the green and let the ball release to the hole
30-50 yard pitches
Hit 5 pitches to each of three targets: 30, 40, and 50 yards
- consistent tempo with smooth acceleration through impact
- vary the length of your backswing, not your swing speed
Greenside bunker
Hit greenside bunker shots with an open clubface
- open the face before you take your grip
- enter the sand about 2 inches behind the ball
- swing along your foot line (slightly outside-to-in) and accelerate through the sand
- follow through fully; a short follow-through is the most common bunker mistake
- with no bunker today, drop a ball in first-cut rough and rehearse the same setup and swing without sand
3-foot circle drill
Place 4 balls in a circle, each 3 feet from the hole (north, south, east, west)
- putt each ball, then rotate positions
- make all 4 in a row; if you miss, start over
